
This action is implemented by a carefully constructed consortium with long experience as promoters of the European Code Against Cancer (ECAC), in health promotion and addressing health literacy amongst diverse groups.

The Advisory Board of the BUMPER project brings independent expert oversight to provide guidance,
advise on project outcomes and deliverables, help with issues and challenges, and counsel on new emerging opportunities.
Dr Tit AlbrehtDr Tit Albreht is the Head of the Centre for Health Care at the National Institute of Public Health of Slovenia. He has a PhD in Health Services Research at the University of Amsterdam. He is a senior researcher in the field of health services research, health policy and health systems research. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of EUPHA and president of the Slovenian Preventive Medicine Society. He is also a member of the Health Council of the Ministry of Health of Slovenia. He is a reviewer of several scientific journals and projects of the European Commission. Currently, Dr Tit is the coordinator of the third Joint Action on Cancer Control, entitled Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer (iPAAC). He is an Associate Professor of Public Health at the Medical Faculty of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and he teaches public health and epidemiology at the Medical Faculty of Maribor and the Faculty of Nursing in Maribor.
Johan De MunterJohan De Munter is currently working as a nurse manager at the University Hospital Ghent Cancer Center. He has been a registered nurse in oncology-haematology for 21 years. He has expertise in healthcare provision and patient education, supportive care needs, adolescents and young adults with cancer, transition and survivorship care with a focus on evidence-based cancer nursing, quality of care, advocacy and communication. De Munter is currently a board member in the Majinhuis, a community support home for people affected by cancer. He is also a member of the steering committee and a permanent teacher on the Flemish training program for adolescents and young adults. De Munter is co-chair of the Flemish strategic AYA movement advisory group, a member of the SIOP Europe AYA Committee, and a member of the Belgian Federal Council of Nursing. He has been President of the European Oncology Nursing Society since 2021.
Dr Marc Van den BulckeDr Marc Van den Bulcke obtained a PhD in sciences at the Laboratory of Genetics of the University of Ghent, Belgium. Since 2013, he has been the head of the Cancer Centre, a unit dedicated to the monitoring and evaluation of the activities in cancer control and care in Belgium. Key activities of the Cancer Centre are the introduction of ‘omics’ as a tool in personalized medicine in oncology based on advances in translational research and public health. Also, the Cancer Centre focuses on models to support the socio-professional reintegration of cancer patients, on screening and early detection (expert focus on cervical cancer), on psycho-social and palliative care and on integrating opinions of patients, citizens and general practitioners in the policy support activities of the Cancer Centre. The Belgian EBCP Mirrorgroup is organized and coordinated by the Cancer Centre.
Stella MastoraStella Mastora has been a breast cancer patient since 2006. She has been a member of the Board of Cyprus since 2008 and a member of the Board of Europa Donna, The European Breast Cancer Coalition since 2023. She participated as a speaker in a presentation to the House of Parliament in 2013 in Cyprus, where she presented her personal experience which it was indicated the need for the creation of a Breast Unit in Cyprus. She has also been a speaker at different conferences such as Novartis, Roche and Europa Donna Hellas. She has done presentations in different villages in Cyprus to the awareness of breast cancer. She has also been interviewed in magazines or TV shows with further goals the awareness for breast cancer and early detection. In 2018, she ascended Breithorn Mountain in Switzerland with more than 80 women who raised their voices at the summit for breast cancer awareness action.
Michele CalabroMichele Calabro is the Director of the European reference network for Regional and Local Health Authorities (EUREGHA). He leads the work of the association’s secretariat, covering advocacy, knowledge exchange and partnerships, communication and events. Before joining EUREGHA, Michele worked at the European Health Management Association as a Policy and Communications Manager, at the European Patients’ Forum as a Policy Adviser, and at DIGITALEUROPE as Senior Manager for Digital Health Policy. Throughout his professional career, Michele has worked on a series of EU-level projects. Between April 2020 and January 2022, he co-chaired the EU4Health Civil Society Alliance. Michele is also part of several health policy networks, including the Young Forum Gastein, the European Health Parliament Alumni group, and the informal IPSE Network – Italiani per le Politiche Sanitarie Europee.
Dr Alberto CostaDr Alberto Costa is internationally recognized for his work for the advancement of breast cancer management and renowned for his innovative ideas in scientific communication and educational development and as CEO of the European School of Oncology. He has served as Secretary General of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and he is currently the Scientific Advisor for anti-cancer strategies to the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides. He has been a member of the editorial boards of various cancer publications and the author of over 250 scientific publications.
Ulrike HelbigUlrike Helbig is an expert and advising member in the development of Cancer related health care and prevention at the German ministries (BMG, BMBF), National and international institutions such as DKFZ, IMPP, DANK, BfS, UICC, IARC, ECL and Lead of WG Health Economy S3 Guideline Skin Cancer Prevention. She is part of the academic board of the magazines Onkologische Pflege and FORUM (until 2019). She has organized Congresses, Conferences and Round Tables such as Open Oncology Conferences, Cancer Patient Conferences, the European Conference on Tobacco or Health (2020), Annual Conference of ECL (2019), European Round Table Meetings (ERTM) in collaboration with UICC, World Cancer Conference 2022 (UICC), and Cancer Prevention Conference (Program committee).
Dr Csaba L. DegiDr Csaba L. Dégi is a Full Professor with habilitation and a researcher at the Babeș-Bolyai University, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work in Cluj Napoca, Romania. He has a PhD in medical psychology and holds the distinction of being the first ombudsman at the Babeș-Bolyai University, a member of ENOHE. Dr Dégi is a leading figure in the field of psycho-oncology, having worked with cancer patients, professionals, and oncology institutions since 2001. He is the Executive Secretary of the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS). He is also the President-Elect of the European Cancer Organization (ECO) in Brussels. Dr Dégi is the founder and president of the Romanian Association for Services and Communication in Oncology (APSCO). He has also developed a distress screening app and has a wealth of original publications under his name.
Prof Mauro GiacominiProf Mauro Giacomini is an electronics engineer with a PhD in bioengineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan and postdoctoral experience in computer science applied to medicine and biology. Currently, he is an associate professor of Bioengineering at the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics and System Engineering of the University of Genoa, Italy. His research activities include medical informatics, with special reference to the application of standards in medical data treatment and medical knowledge-based systems.
Prof Dr Shlomo VinkerDr Shlomo Vinker is a full Professor in Family Medicine, associate Dean for community teaching, and former Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv. He has published about 250 research papers in medical journals. He is the President of WONCA EUROPE. He has been an Executive board member (2015-2022) and Chair of the educational committee (2018-2022) in EGPRN. He is the honorary treasurer of the IAFP (The Israeli Association of Family Physicians). Dr Shlomo founded an open Wiki website with high-quality medical information, now around 6,600 articles and millions of annual entries. He has been Chief Medical Officer (2015-present) at Leumit Health Services, a nationwide healthcare organization serving about 730,000 members. He established a research institute in Leumit and has been chairing it since 2018 aiming to enhance research capacity in family medicine and primary care.
Dr Pieter de ConinckDr Pieter de Coninck is coordinating policy officer at the Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport in The Hague. He joined the ministry in 1998, after receiving his PhD in History. Since then, Pieter has worked in various policy areas, including tobacco control, healthcare policy in the Dutch Caribbean and global health policy (as WHO National Counterpart for the Netherlands). From 2008-2012, he was seconded to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health to work on an EU-alcohol policy. His current area of work is cancer control.
Dr Cristina Vaz de AlmeidaDr Cristina Vaz de Almeida is the President of the Portuguese Society of Health Literacy (SPLS). She has a PhD in Communication Sciences and Health Literacy. Currently, she is the Director of the Post-Graduation in Health Literacy (ISPA) and Chief-Editor of the Journal of Medical Research (JIM). She is also an ISCSP Researcher in CAPP (Center for Public Policy Administration). Dr Vaz de Almeida is member of the National Cancer Hub (NCH) Portugal.
Prof Julian MamoProf Julian Mamo has been the Head of the Department of Public Health of Malta since 2006. He has a PhD on Ageing and Health at the King’s College London. He has coordinated a Masters in Public Health at the University of Malta Medical School since 2006. Over recent years, he has conducted several expert evaluations for several EU agencies. Between 2008 and 2010, he was president of the Malta Association of Public Health. Prof Mamo has conducted editorial work for the Malta Medical Journal and the Italian Journal of Public Health and has been on the Scientific Committee of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) since 2006. He continues to coordinate research projects as well as undergraduate and postgraduate studies in research methods and public health within the Department of Public Health of the University of Malta. Currently, he teaches epidemiology and has more recently joined the health research group of the Islands and Small States Institute (ISSI) at the University of Malta.
