By improving people’s access to understandable and trustworthy health information and their capacity to use it effectively, health literacy is critical to empowering people to make decisions about their personal health. To raise greater awareness about this important topic amongst cancer prevention professionals, the BUMPER project organized the webinar Advancing Health Literacy and Digital Skills for Cancer Prevention.
The webinar was spearheaded by Work Package 5 (WP5) of the BUMPER project, which focuses on training the promoters of the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention, increasing their Health Literacy (HL) and Digital Health Literacy (DHL). This Work Package is coordinated by UCLouvain in collaboration with the other project partners. As a part of the WP5 scope, they have created some useful materials and trainings to share their expertise and enhance the understanding of HL and DHL and how they contribute to cancer prevention.
During the webinar, Helena Ros, the BUMPER coordinator from the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL), initiated the session by introducing the BUMPER project and its objectives. Following this, Professor Stephan Van den Broucke from UCLouvain provided an insightful overview of health literacy and digital health literacy skills, emphasizing their crucial role in cancer prevention. The webinar concluded with an engaging Questions & Answers segment, where participants actively shared their thoughts and questions.
The webinar had an attendance of more than 40 participants, including BUMPER partners, members of different European cancer leagues, students, and professionals working in cancer prevention. From the BUMPER project, we appreciate everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion, and we hope the insights gained will enhance our efforts in promoting cancer prevention.
