Meet the Advisory Board of the project!

The Advisory Board of the BUMPER project is formed by 13 experts from various domains within the healthcare landscape, working at health professional organisations, European national agencies, patients’ coalitions, and the research community. Their main objective is to provide oversight and strategic guidance, ensuring the project’s success and impact. Keep reading on to learn more about them.

Dr. Shlomo Vinker brings extensive experience as a Full Professor in Family Medicine and President of WONCA EUROPE. With a remarkable track record of research and leadership in healthcare, Dr. Vinker’s insights are invaluable in shaping the project’s direction.

Dr. Alberto Costa, CEO of the European School of Oncology, is a leading innovator in breast cancer treatment. His groundbreaking contributions to scientific communication and educational development are pivotal in advancing cancer care on a global scale.

Johan De Munter, with over two decades of experience in oncology-hematology nursing, promotes a commitment to patient-centered care. His expertise in supportive care needs and survivorship is instrumental in ensuring the project’s relevance and impact on the ground.

Dr. Tit Albreht, Head of the Centre for Health Care at the National Institute of Public Health of Slovenia, brings a wealth of knowledge in health policy and systems research. His leadership in cancer control initiatives is fundamental to shaping effective strategies for healthcare delivery.

Pieter de Coninck is a coordinating policy officer at the Netherlands Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport in The Hague. With extensive experience in tobacco control, healthcare policy, and global health, his current focus lies in cancer control. 

Ulrike Helbig is a leading authority in cancer prevention and healthcare economics, with a proven track record of driving impactful initiatives. Her expertise and strategic vision contribute significantly to the project’s overarching goals.

Dr. Marc Van den Bulcke, with a distinguished background in cancer control and translational research, provides expertise in advancing personalized medicine and improving patient outcomes.

Dr. Cristina Vaz de Almeida is an expert in promoting health literacy and effective communication in healthcare. Her dedication to enhancing patient understanding and engagement ensures the project’s outcomes arrive to diverse stakeholders.

With my experience and expertise in health literacy, especially in the area of behaviour change and assertive, clear and positive communication skills (ACP Model) I think I will be able to reinforce the effective intervention of the project and support the appropriate dissent in order to be understood by all the target audiences of this important BUMPER project” – Dr. Cristina Vaz de Almeida.

Dr. Csaba L. Dégi, a leading figure in psycho-oncology, brings an understanding of the psychosocial aspects of cancer care. His advocacy for patient-centered approaches enriches the project’s impact.

Stella Mastora, a breast cancer survivor turned advocate, inspires with her resilience and dedication to raising awareness. Her firsthand insights into patient experiences are invaluable in shaping patient-centric strategies.

Prof. Julian Mamo, Head of the Department of Public Health of Malta, promotes excellence in research and education. His leadership in public health initiatives ensures the project’s alignment with broader societal needs and aspirations.

Prof. Mauro Giacomini, is an expert in bioengineering and bridges technology and medicine with his pioneering research. His contributions to medical informatics drive innovation in healthcare delivery and management.

Michele Calabro, as the Director of the European reference network for Regional and Local Health Authorities, plays a pivotal role in shaping EU health policy. His advocacy and partnerships are essential in advancing the project’s objectives on a policy level.
